For those of you who LOVE steel cut oats but cannot stand 1) toiling over the stove to stir so that the bottom of your pan doesn't develop a crust or 2) the unpredictability of the microwave method... this is for you!

I just tried this... it may not be novel, but I haven't read about it before.

USE YOUR RICE STEAMER!

If you have one, great.... if you don't, get one!

1 cup steel cut oats
2 1/2 cups water

Put it in the reservoir where you would normally cook the rice. Fill the water reservoir to the level you would normally use for rice. Steam for 45-50 minutes.

Although it is not a fast as the microwave, I have absolutely NO cleanup other than the steamer bowl. In the microwave, I almost always have a blowout! Also, you can start breakfast in the morning and walk away... that's nice.

Oh... I add raisins, whole almonds, sugar free syrup and "I can't believe it's not butter" spray. MMmmmmmm.
