COMPANY CASSEROLE
8 oz. egg noodles, uncooked 1 1/4 lb. hamburger 2 cans (8 oz. each) tomato sauce 8 oz. cream cheese 1 cup cottage cheese 1/4 cup thick sour cream 1 tbsp. finely chopped green pepper 1/3 cup chopped green onion 3 tbsp. margarine, melted grated parmesan, mozzarella, or cheddar cheese (for topping)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 2 quart ovenproof dish.
Boil noodles for 10 minutes and drain.
Brown hamburger and drain. Stir in tomato sauce and remove form heat.
Combine cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, onion, and green pepper.
Pour half of the meat mixture into the dish. Spread 1/2 of noodles over the meat layer. Cover with cheese mixture. Cover with remaining noodles. Pour margarine over noodles. Pour remaining meat mixture over noodles. Sprinkle with grated cheese.
Bake 20-30 minutes.
VARIATIONS: - This may also be layered like lasagna in a 13x9-inch baking pan.
- Some versions of this recipe layer half the noodles first, then cheese mixture, then remaining noodles, melted butter, all of the meat mixture, and then top with grated cheese.
- 1 cup bread crumbs may be used to top the dish in place of the grated cheese.
