BANANA BREAD1/3 cup shortening 3/4 cup sugar 1 egg, well beaten 2 cups bran flakes 1 1/2 cups sifted flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tap. baking soda 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas 2 Tbsp. water 1 tsp. vanilla Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Cream shortening and sugar together well. Add egg and bran flakes; set aside. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Add nuts; set aside. Combine banans and water. Add to creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients; stir in vanilla. Pour into prepared pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 1 hour and ten minutes.
