MOTHER'S MOLASSES COOKIES
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon Arm & Hammer Brand or Cow Brand Baking Soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon each ground cloves, allspice, and nutmeg 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup sugar 1 egg 1/2 cup molasses 1 tablespoon vinegar and enough sweet milk to make 1/2 cup
Sift flour, soda, salt, and spices together.
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream until fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Beat in molasses.
Combine vinegar and milk; add alternately with dry ingredients; stir until well blended. Chill.
Roll about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick on floured board. Cut in desired shapes.
Bake on cooky sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F. (moderate oven) for about 12 minutes.
