Garbage Can Turkey

This is a tried and easy way to have turkey in the summer without heating up the house.
My method:

I 20 gal. galvanized trash can
20lb. bag of charcoal, any brand
Aluminum foil
Metal stake, appox. 18"

Turkey, defrosted
4-5 slices bacon
Seasoned salt, or any other seasonings you like

Before using the can, you have to build a fire in it to burn off the galvanizing, I would suggest doing it the day before. Once the galvanizing is burned out of the inside, you are ready.

Insert the metal post in the ground about 6". Make a large ball of foil and put over the top of the stake, this is where the turkey will rest while cooking. Lay sheets of foil on the ground around the stake, large enough to cover the bottom of the can when overturned and then some.
Wash and dry turkey. Place over ball of foil, neck up. Season and lay strips of bacon over top of turkey. Place can over the top of the turkey, making sure the top isn't resting on the turkey. Place charcoal around the base of the can, also on the bottom, (which is now the top). Light charcoal and allow to cook. Once coals are white, begin timing the bird, approx. 8 minutes per pound. You have to watch the time, as you can't peek!
