Well we enjoy doing the hand print things .... almost ANYTHING with hand prints is great -- t-shirts, sweat shirts, tote bags, pillow cases .... You can also do foot prints and hand write "I walk all over grand-pa"
When i frist made them YEARS ago (at least 9 yrrs) i purchased regular acrylic craft paint like for folk art in the crafts stores ... i also picked up what was called a "medium" to help it adhear to fabrics. i would mix as per directions and then the fun begins .... paint on childs hand and then YOU help guide the hand where you want it to be placed -- if you are artsy you can add a design like a bunny face and let the hands be the ears ... you need to put who it is on there someplace too. like for the cousins who were in Michigan and we were in CA we put "california cousins" in script in the upper corner then the childrens names went under their set of prints. At the time my youngest wwe not born so when sis came out to visit when youngest was under a yr we added her hands to the crew ... sis bourght all her kids sweats to have them added to :) the script was done with the fabric paint bottles. Now i was making 20 of these so i could not afford those bottle sor all the prints that is why i used acrlics and meduim it went farther and was less $$ today you have even MORE variety to choose from. BTW the ones i made are still in use!! Prewash the shirts first that is one trick. and if one seems too faint just add a little paint to it after childs print is done ... don't try to reprint just "fill in."
a twist on this is to take a piece of burlap and have green paint for hands you then have the child put hand prints in a cirle so that finger tips point out add some red dots for berries and complete with bow and make into christmas wall hanging. looks like a wreath
TIP: to apply paint to child i used an OB super tampon. I know it sounds wierd but it made for GREAT coverage on the hand -- I smooshed the end and then dippped in paint and then rubbed on hand -- i ended up doing these in 2 different classes at the elem schools and used those as well -- just didn't tell the kids ... teacher thought it was hilarious! OB is best brand for this ...
****** have child peal crayons let the pealings fall onto waxed paper and then melt them in between 2 pieces of waxed paper, add a string and wa la a beutiful "suncatcher"
****** make his/her art work (even a scribble) into a calandar and iclude special dates you can do from any computer program or kinkos could even do color copies of artwork.
***** be sure whatever is done is "signed and dated"
***** pick up and paint rocks for paper wieghts
**** What about some paper plate flowers?? it is FUN to color on paper plates he/she can tape on stems that you have cut out.
**** wonderful that you want him/her to make somthing ... don't detract from it by giving them a store gift as well from the child let his/her gift be the gift ... and let them be first to give even before they open theirs ... :)
**** string or twine glued around a bottle makes a nice vase simply glue up the bottle and add rows of twine or string -- hey he/she sould dye the string as well .... FUN MESS!! ORRRR let em roll it in glitter! spray then with polyurithane after child is down for nap ....
well my thinker is tunked out if i come up with more i'll post ... good luck and do share what you do :)
