Butter Sticks
1/2 cup butter 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 cup milk caraway and /or seseame and poppy seed
Melt half the butter in 13X9X2 inch baking pan. Mix next 4 ingredients in bowl. Cut in remaining butter. Add milk, stirring slowly with fork until dough just clings together. Turn out on floured board, roll dough over to coat with flour, then knead lightly abaout 10 turns. Roll to a 12x8 rectangle about 1/2 thick. with floured knife, cut dough in half lengthwise, then crosswise in 3/4 inch strips. roll strips in melted butter in baking pan and place close together in two rows. Sprinkle with choice of seed. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve hot. Makes 32.
Quick Sesame Loaf
3 cups all purpose flou 1/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 3 eggs, beaten 1 3/4 cups milk 1/4 cup vegetable oil sesame seed Combine first 4 ingredients in mixing bowl; stir well with fork to mix. combine eggs, milk and oil and add all at once to flour mixture, stirring only until flour is moistened and mixture is blended but not smooth. Pour into greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Sprinkle seasame seed over and bake in preheated 375 degree oven 65 minutes or until toothpick comes clean. Cool of rack 15 minutes before removing from pan. Cut in slices with serrated knife and serve warm. Also good toasted.
