HOT APPLE CEREAL4 cups milk
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups rolled oats, uncooked
2 cups chopped apples, peeled and cored
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins
1 cup wheat germ
Heavy (whipping) cream (for serving)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a saucepan combine the milk, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon. Scald and set aside.
In a large bowl combine the rolled oats, apples, walnuts, raisins and wheat germ. Pour the scalded milk mixture over the oat mixture and stir well. Pour into a greased 2-quart casserole and cover with foil.
Bake, covered, at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes, stirring several times during the baking period.
Serve hot with a splash of heavy cream.
